CAD Pack for North America FAQs

This section addresses some common questions and situations that may arise regarding CAD Pack software. For more information, please refer to the Help file and Tutorial provided with CAD Pack software.

Which versions of AutoCAD are compatible with the CAD Pack software?
CAD Pack is compatible with AutoCAD version 2004 to 2009.

Is CAD Pack software compatible with AutoCAD LT?
No. AutoCAD LT does not support AutoLisp or any other custom programming API; therefore we cannot provide an AutoCAD LT version of CAD Pack software.

Does CAD Pack software run directly from the CD or must it be installed to a local or network drive?
The CAD Pack software must be installed to either a user's local drive or a network drive. Approximately one gigabyte free disk space is required.

How do I start working with CAD Pack?
The CAD Pack software can be started by selecting from Windows Start > Programs > Herman Miller > CAD Pack > CAD Pack Toolbar and Menu Loader. After selecting your AutoCAD version and Apply, the CAD Pack toolbar and utilities menu will be added AutoCAD. For further details on how to use the Product Browser, launch the CAD Pack Tutorial.

Is CAD Pack software compatible with MicroStation?
Beginning December 2003, the prior MicroStation CAD Pack software has been discontinued. If there are further questions regarding CAD symbols for MicroStation, please call the CAD Pack Technical Support at (616) 654-3483.

Can I edit a drawing created with an older version of CAD Pack with a newer version of CAD Pack?
Yes. All CAD Pack releases are completely backward compatible. For example, when you load a new CAD Pack menu in a drawing containing old CAD Pack symbols, you can perform 2D to 3D swaps, takeoff extracts, etc, on both old and new CAD Pack blocks.

None of the standard AutoCAD dialog boxes appear when I type in commands or make selections from the AutoCAD or CAD Pack menus.
The AutoCAD FILEDIA system variable has been inadvertently set to 0. This sometimes happens when a user performs an UNDO immediately after placing a CAD Pack block. You need to set the FILEDIA variable back to 1. At the AutoCAD command line, type FILEDIA, followed by a carriage return. Then type 1 followed by a carriage return.

How do I know what version of CAD Pack is currently running?
From AutoCAD, select the CAD Pack Utilities menu, CAD Pack Help and then About. A dialog box will display the current version you are using. From the CAD Pack Product Browser, select Help and About Herman Miller CAD Pack.

How do I unload the CAD Pack menus from AutoCAD?
To unload the CAD Pack menus, select CAD Pack Utilities pull-down menu in AutoCAD, select CAD Pack Configuration and Unload CAD Pack Menus.

I need help with these utilities: Set Product Options, Copy Product Options, Set Symbol Source, Installation Drawing Aids.
Please see the corresponding section in the CAD Pack Help file regarding these utilities or reference the CAD Pack Tutorial. If you need additional assistance, contact CAD Pack Technical Support.

How do I get the nodes on the symbols to display?
You need to set the AutoCAD PDMODE and PDSIZE system variables to values other than zero. At the AutoCAD command line, type PDMODE or PDSIZE followed by a carriage return; then type the corresponding PDMODE or PDSIZE value followed by a carriage return. Suggested values for the PDMODE and PDSIZE are 3 and 1 respectively.

How do I turn the symbol attributes on/off?
Set the AutoCAD ATTDISP system variable to either On or Off. At the AutoCAD command line, type ATTDISP followed by a carriage return; then type ON or OFF followed by a carriage return. Or you can use CAD Pack Layer Utility from the CAD Pack Utilities pull-down or toolbar (and uncheck Display Attributes).

How do I get pricing?
You need to use the TakeOff Select Symbols and TakeOff Create SIF/Report functions in order to create a SIF file that can be read into Herman Miller's specIT program or a third-party specification software package.

After opening TakeOff Create SIF/Report I cannot find the file I created. Where is my file?
TakeOff is a 16-bit application and cannot read long file names. Your text file has not been changed, it is only being displayed in a shortened format. The shortened format displays your file with the first six characters, a tilde and a number (i.e. typica~1.txt).

I haven't updated my CAD Pack software lately. Where can I find the latest release?
