Mirra Draws Major Media Interest
July 28, 2003   [E-mail Page]  [Print Page]

Herman Miller's newest work chair is receiving a lot of attention in the press.

In the weeks preceding and following its June introduction at NeoCon 2003, the Mirra chair has been featured across virtually all media channels, from magazines and newspapers, to online, to radio and television.

Publications as diverse as the New York Times, the Washington Post, Popular Science, the Green Business Letter and the Poughkeepsie Journal have heralded Mirra's arrival. Cable television superstation WGN-TV and National Public Radio likewise have devoted airtime to discussing the chair.

"The depth and breadth of coverage Mirra has received is truly reflective of Herman Miller's leadership position in seating," says Sheila Warfield, senior manager, Marketing PR. "There was a general curiosity about the chair prior to its introduction, but the interest has mushroomed since Mirra received the Best of NeoCon Gold Award in its category. I also believe many people have been waiting to see how we'd follow up the success of the ever-popular Aeron chair, even though Mirra is designed for the mid-price market."

In making the inevitable comparison to the more expensive Aeron, Slate e-zine reporter Jessie Scanlon gives Mirra a positive review. "The new one-size-fits-all chair has managed to pack an impressive amount of ergonomic power into the lower price," Scanlon says.

Interior Design magazine says Mirra "performs well, looks sharp, and is environmentally sound."

And in an extensive cover story entitled, "The Next Icon?" the July 2003 edition of the design publication Metropolis tells the Mirra story in detail, from its initial conception through its ergonomics and recyclability. Writer Peter Hall rates Mirra's TriFlex backrest as "extraordinarily comfortable." He also praises the chair's versatility, easy adjustability, comfortable ride, environmentally friendly composition, and price.

"The media's reaction to Mirra has been very favorable," says Mark Schurman, director, External Communications at Herman Miller. "Simply introducing yet another chair design won't generate interest, but Mirra's unique qualities, coupled with Herman Miller's reputation for innovation, has created demand for the story."

Mirra is now available nationwide through Herman Miller business dealers and consumer and online stores.
