Herman Miller, Inc., introduces Abak, a flexible, freestanding desking platform designed and equipped for a variety of applications, from a basic table to a high-performance system. Herman Miller brings Abak to North America following several years of successful customer installations in Europe and Asia.
"Abak speaks to the increasing worldwide demand for an easily adaptable office system that works in open environments. Its simple beam construction, together with its wide variety of desktop designs, makes it practical and versatile. Its clean,

crisp styling makes it a natural choice for modern workspaces everywhere," says Keith McRobert, director, Systems at Herman Miller.
"Our Abak program in North America will allow us to build on the success we have experienced with the product overseas," McRobert adds. "It offers a unique global alternative to our customers who desire a clean aesthetic while addressing their application needs for a bench-style, more open and collaborative environment."

Abak's new non-modular spine wall allows customers to easily adapt to changing application requirements. While staying true to its Italian design, this North American version has been modified to include new elements and capabilities specified for the domestic market.
"Abak reflects a European design character adapted to a North American work process," explains Rick Duffy, vice president, Genesis at Herman Miller. "Its character, achieved through the use of translucent, reflective materials, thin-profile work surfaces, and a neutral rich color offering--from warm to cool--allows Abak to fit in, but not overpower the architecture. It's a good indication that Herman Miller is looking globally for inspiration."
"Abak's lighter-scaled, more open and translucent look responds to the growing trend toward light architecture," adds Tim McLoughlin, senior design manager, Team Genesis. "A&D will find this a refreshing alternative to conventional systems solutions."
Abak meets the particular needs of multi-national organizations that seek to standardize their office furniture systems across continents and cultures. Although primarily manufactured in Europe, Asia, and North America, Abak complies with many different local standards and cultural requirements.
Abak customers overseas represent many business sectors including major international retail, information technology, financial, and energy corporations, as well as government agencies.
"As with the Aeron and Mirra work chairs and the Resolve system that preceded it, Abak delivers a global solution that will quickly establish its versatility and value wherever it is introduced," McRobert says.
