Herman Miller Makes the Grade with Education Solutions at NeoCon 2007

Herman Miller will display at NeoCon an array of solutions for higher education facilities throughout its National Design Center in Suite 321 at Chicago's Merchandise Mart, June 11-13, 2007.

"We're looking forward to helping people discover at NeoCon the possibilities that will have the most impact on their college and university projects," says Lori Gee, Herman Miller's Education Solutions team lead.

People + pedagogy + place = possibilities is an equation Herman Miller's Education Solutions team uses to focus on understanding the needs of the people involved, the pedagogy of today and tomorrow, and how place can support an institution's goals. The team works with its customers to apply the equation to all space types across campus--including learning spaces, libraries, conference rooms, office areas, and community spaces.

"Using this equation is as much art as it is science," says Jeff Vredevoogd, Education Solutions. "Furnishing higher education facilities is more than supplying tables and chairs, it's about enabling an institution's culture and strategy."

Herman Miller and alliance partner Bretford will host knowledge sessions focused on creating great places to learn. Four opportunities exist to attend the sessions presented at the Bretford showroom in Suite 330.

"Function to Form," led by Terry Hadjuk, principal of ARX Design in Dublin, Ohio, will highlight ways to design higher education environments to maximize learning outcomes. The session will highlight the elements to transform an institution's vision into a dynamic place that enriches teaching and learning. The CEU-approved session is scheduled for Monday, June 11, at 10:00 a.m. and Tuesday, June 12, at 2:00 p.m.

The second session, entitled "Maximizing Learning: The Role of Space in Higher Education," will be facilitated by University of Dayton professors Molly Schaller, Ph.D., and Sawyer Hunley, Ph.D. This experiential-based program looks at how spaces can promote learning through innovative design, technology use and furniture selection. The presenters will highlight their multi-year, multi-method study of the relationship between space and faculty pedagogy. It is scheduled for Monday, June 11, at 2:00 p.m. and Tuesday, June 12, at 10:00 a.m.

Surrounding the sessions will be one of Herman Miller's latest innovations, Convia, a programmable and modular electrical and data infrastructure. Experts will be available to discuss the exciting ways it has been used at Harvard University and Georgia Tech.

"We're looking forward to sharing a specific higher education experience at NeoCon," notes Gee. "By sharing our knowledge with others, we create an opportunity for them to discover meaningful new ideas for their learning space."
