Quickly following the devastating earthquake and subsequent tsunami that struck Japan on March 11, 2011, Herman Miller responded with donations of more than $50,000 in support of the relief operations. But we saw an opportunity to do more. Ben Matsusaki, the Managing Director of our Japanese business, and his team identified a small town called Ishinomaki in the 300-mile zone most severely impacted that needed help. In partnership with a local organization, Ishinomaki Laboratory, a team of Herman Miller volunteers worked with the people of Ishinomaki to develop new skills and ways of generating income. Herman Miller has had a presence in Japan for 24 years.
In its fifteenth year, Herman Miller and the architecture and design community volunteered in “We Care,” our annual partnership with Boys and Girls Clubs of America. It’s a day of creativity and craft-making for underprivileged children in 25 cities across the U.S. and Canada.
