Herman Miller Healthcare Adds to Growing List of Accolades for Compass System
December 13, 2010
Herman Miller Healthcare, a division of Herman Miller, Inc., continues to earn recognition for its thoughtfully designed interior healthcare solutions, specifically its Compass system. Recently, the company received an Interior Design Best of Year Award—the architecture and interior design industry's most preeminent design competition—in the Healthcare Furniture and Seating category for this industry-leading modular system of interchangeable parts developed to respond to the changing nature of healthcare delivery.
"This recognition from the design community is a reflection of the revolutionary nature of our Compass system," said Herman Miller Healthcare President Beth Nickels. "It also charges us to continue driving innovation within the healthcare industry by ensuring we provide our end users with offerings that are as cutting-edge as they are evidence based."
In addition to the Best of Year Award, Herman Miller Healthcare's Compass system also earned a Best of NeoCon Gold and a Spark Award in 2010. As an Interior Design Best of Year Award recipient, Compass is considered to be of the highest functional and aesthetic value while simultaneously providing benefits to the widest range of users. Compass earned this recognition as a result of receiving the highest number of votes in its category and then being selected by a highly esteemed jury comprising leading design professionals.
The Compass system, a result of an ongoing collaboration between Herman Miller and Continuum, a global innovation and design consultancy headquartered in Boston, is the culmination of more than two years of gathering observations from more than 550 individuals—from nurse managers to hospital administrators—to identify the four primary needs of the dynamic healthcare environment. Offering a new approach to furnishing for healthcare interiors, Compass includes structural, surface, and storage components to provide unexpected levels of flexibility while also reducing costs. As a valuable and needed solution for a variety of healthcare spaces, especially acute care and outpatient facilities, it is an essential component to creating a welcoming aesthetic within a patient room.
