Herman Miller, Inc., Again Named One of FORTUNE's "100 Best Companies to Work For" in America
January 21, 2010
For the third consecutive year Herman Miller has been named to the list of America's best employers as compiled by FORTUNE magazine and the Great Place to Work Institute. The 13th annual ranking is the result of a survey that solicits information from organizations and their employees about credibility of management, job satisfaction, camaraderie, recruiting, and employee services.
Herman Miller, ranked 97th, is one of three Michigan-based companies to appear on the list and the only representative from the office furniture industry.
FORTUNE Deputy Managing Editor Hank Gilman says, "The most important considerations for this year's list were hiring and the ways in which companies are helping their employees weather the recession."
FORTUNE works with Robert Levering and Milton Moskowitz of the Great Place to Work Institute, a global research and consulting firm, to conduct and interpret the findings of more than 80,000 employee surveys submitted by participating companies.
This is the fifth time Herman Miller has appeared on the list, having previously been included in the 2009, 2008, 1999, and 1998 rankings. The company also was among the profiled organizations in the original "100 Best Companies to Work for in America" books by Levering and Moskowitz, prior to their collaboration with FORTUNE.
The "100 Best Companies to Work For" report may be found in the publication's February 8 issue, which will be available on newsstands on Monday, January 25, and online at www.fortune.com/bestcompanies.
