Herman Miller, Inc., Named Green Champion by Business Review West Michigan

Herman Miller has been selected as a Green Champion by Business Review West Michigan. The recognition hails from the publication's inaugural Green Awards, which honors companies and individuals who exemplify the spirit of sustainability and push the boundaries of green business.

Nearly 100 nominations were received from across the region and throughout a variety of industries, from small retailers to manufacturers and startups to longtime organizations.

Herman Miller is noted for its Perfect Vision goals, which include 100 percent reduction of VOC emissions to air, hazardous waste and solid waste to landfills by 2020.

The Green Awards selection committee represents many of West Michigan's strongest sustainability advocates, including Grand Rapids Mayor George Heartwell; Marylu Dykstra, president of the West Michigan Sustainable Business Forum; Deb Steketee, executive director of Aquinas College's Center for Sustainability; and Kelley Losey of Cascade Engineering/Quest.

Winners and nominees will be announced in the publication's September 3, 2009, edition. There also will be Green Awards celebration beginning at 5 p.m. on September 24, 2009, at 40 Monroe Center in Grand Rapids.
