Herman Miller Named “Corporation of the Year” by the Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council

Herman Miller, Inc. was recently named the 2013 “Corporation of the Year” in the commercial products sector by the Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council (MMSDC). The award is presented to the corporation that best engages, develops, and promotes supplier diversity, and was announced at the MMSDC’s 30th annual awards celebration at Detroit’s Fox Theatre on October 1st. Herman Miller was selected for the honor from among several finalists, marking the seventh time in nine years the company has received the award.

“We are honored to once again be recognized for our commitment to supporting the small and diverse-owned businesses in our community,” said Abe Carrillo, Herman Miller’s Director of Inclusiveness and Diversity. “Our focus on creating an inclusive workforce and supply chain is critical for us to continue to thrive in today’s global marketplace, but even more importantly, it’s a way for us to contribute towards the growth and success of our economy.

Herman Miller is committed to developing beneficial business relationship through its supplier diversity procurement program. The company’s total corporate diversity spend for its 2013 fiscal year was $109 million, or 16% of its total purchasing. Herman Miller also continues its commitment to sharing best practices and educating its communities about the value of supplier diversity and its impact both on the organization and society.
