Herman Miller Receives International and Regional Awards for Sustainability and Community Programs
September 24, 2012
Herman Miller, Inc., has been cited once again for corporate leadership in sustainability and community involvement, earning recognition from both the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World), and the state of Michigan’s Neighborhood Environmental Partners Program (NEP). This marks the ninth consecutive year the company has been placed on the DJSI World and the fourth straight year earning an NEP award.
“We’re proud that our corporate commitment, and our employees’ great work, continues to be recognized,” said Gabe Wing, Director of Environmental Health and Safety. “It’s a true testament to our focus on responsible business practices that impact our local and global communities.”
DJSI World is an international stock portfolio that evaluates the annual performance of the world’s largest 2500 companies using economic, environmental, and social criteria, known as the “triple bottom line” of sustainability. Herman Miller joins approximately 300 other companies, representing the top 10% of leading sustainable companies worldwide. Herman Miller is the only contract office furniture manufacturer selected, and this year is joined by other notable U.S. based companies, including Microsoft and Target.
The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) honored Herman Miller with the NEP award, which recognizes organizations and their community partners that have developed outstanding, ongoing community outreach programs to improve the environment in their neighborhood, allowing for a cleaner and more attractive area in which to live and work.
Herman Miller’s community partners included Tri-City Habitat for Humanity, and Pioneer Resource.
