Herman Miller's Los Angeles Showroom Receives REmmy Award from CoreNet Global's Southern California Chapter

November 19, 2009

The Herman Miller Los Angeles showroom recently was honored by CoreNet Global's Southern California chapter with its 2009 REmmy award in the Corporate Citizen category. The award was received during the chapter's annual charity gala at the Beverly Hills Hotel on November 12, 2009.

The REmmy awards focus on innovation and the creative application of new ideas in corporate real estate and workplace management. A jury of senior real estate leaders from the industry's most respected companies based their decision for the Corporate Citizen award on several criteria, including an ability to integrate sustainability into a project, depth of sustainability in the project, implementation of sustainable maintenance practices, and long term initiatives to encourage sustainable practices.

A former warehouse built in 1956, the company's 18,000-square-foot showroom was completed in September 2009 and it includes several environmentally sensitive measures to create a space that serves as an example of the company's commitment to create a better world. Sustainable elements of the LEED (CI) Platinum-pending showroom include energy efficient light fixtures and occupancy sensors throughout the space, as well as MBDC, BIFMA level and GREENGUARD certified products and materials, to assure an environmentally responsible interior and superior indoor air quality.

"Sustainability is an essential component of this project. It's imperative that the space be a model for sustainable practices now and in the future," says Lori Gee, Herman Miller's Director of Workplace Solutions. "We've designed more than just a showroom—it's a platform from which we can educate others about the environment and demonstrate how they, too, can make a difference."
