Herman Miller Named “Corporation of the Year” by the Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council

Herman Miller, Inc. was recently named the 2012 “Corporation of the Year” in the commercial products sector by the Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council (MMSDC). The award is presented to the corporation that best engages, develops, and promotes supplier diversity, and was announced at the MMSDC’s 29th annual awards dinner on October 2nd. Herman Miller was selected for the honor from among several finalists, marking the sixth time in eight years the company has received the award.
“This award is a reflection of our commitment to supporting the growth and sustainability of small and diverse-owned businesses in our community, and we’re honored to once again be recognized,” said Kimberly Coffman, Senior Manager of Supplier Diversity at Herman Miller. “Our focus on creating an inclusive workforce and supply chain is critical for us to be a successful global company, but even more importantly, it’s a way for us to contribute towards the growth and success of our economy.

The company’s total corporate diversity spend for its 2012 fiscal year was $148 million, or 18% of its total purchasing. MMSDC is a non-profit, 501c 3 organization. Founded in 1977, the Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council (MMSDC) has more than 1,200 certified minority businesses and over 300 corporate members working to further its mission to certify minority businesses; provide access to procurement opportunities; and develop capacity for minority business development.
