Herman Miller, Inc., Again Recognized Among "100 Best Companies to Work For" in America

January 23, 2009

For the second consecutive year Herman Miller has been named to the list of America's best employers as compiled by FORTUNE magazine and the Great Place to Work Institute. The 12th annual ranking is the result of a survey that solicits information from organizations and their employees about credibility of management, job satisfaction, camaraderie, recruiting, and employee services.

Herman Miller, ranked 89th, is one of three Michigan-based companies to appear on the list and the only representative from the office furniture industry.

Herman Miller President and CEO Brian Walker noted, "The people of Herman Miller have always defined our culture, both through their caring and their commitment to excellence, and enable us to reach for our greater aspirations. Through good times, and through challenges, it's that spirit and determination that makes our community a special place."

FORTUNE works with Robert Levering and Milton Moskowitz of the Great Place to Work Institute, a global research and consulting firm, to conduct and interpret the findings of more than 80,000 employee surveys submitted by participating companies.

This is the fourth time Herman Miller has appeared on the list, having previously been included in the 2008, 1999, and 1998 rankings. The company also was among the profiled organizations in the original "100 Best Companies to Work for in America" books by Levering and Moskowitz, prior to their collaboration with FORTUNE.

The "100 Best Companies to Work For" report may be found in the publication's February 2 issue, which will be available on newsstands on Monday, January 26, and online at www.fortune.com/bestcompanies.
