Herman Miller's LA Showroom to Host Celebration for Green Building Dedication
March 02, 2010
Herman Miller's LA showroom will host a celebration on Saturday, March 13, 2010, to commemorate its recent LEED-CI (Commercial Interiors) Platinum recognition from the U.S. Green Building Council. The showroom will be open to the public for tours from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. and a plaque dedication ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. with a presentation led by representatives from the Los Angeles USGBC chapter and Herman Miller.
The 18,000-square-foot facility, located at 3641 Holdrege Avenue, is the first LEED-CI Platinum project in Los Angeles and only the 47th LEED-CI Platinum project worldwide.
A former warehouse built in 1956, the facility was transformed by Herman Miller and architecture and design firm tvsdesign to achieve the highest level of LEED certification. The space includes several environmentally sensitive measures, including its location within an area close to public transportation, local businesses, and restaurants; energy efficient light fixtures and occupancy sensors throughout the space; and MBDC, BIFMA level and GREENGUARD certified products and materials to assure an environmentally responsible interior and superior indoor air quality.
"The building industry, through material content and manufacturing, performance efficiencies, long term durability, and energy distribution monitoring solutions like Herman Miller's Convia Energy Track Reporting Tool, are enabling projects to reach the Platinum level," says Steve Clem, the showroom's lead architect, interior designer and principal at tvsdesign.
While the Los Angeles showroom is Herman Miller's first Platinum LEED-CI project, it is the company's 14th LEED certified facility within the United States and United Kingdom. Its GreenHouse facility, completed in 1994 and located in Holland, Michigan, was also honored as a LEED Pioneer recipient. The company is a founding member of the U.S. Green Building Council and requires that all its new or renovated facilities achieve a minimum of LEED Silver certification.
Those interested in attending the event must RSVP by March 10, 2010, to firstname.lastname@example.org(LINK).
