Did you know that we figured out a way to get a man to the moon before inventing a suitcase with wheels? Have you ever been to Disneyland and noticed the typeface of the engravings on its storm drains? Have you taken the time to really consider what kind of swamp you are living in today?
Neither did I until attending the 2010 CUSP Conference at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. Sponsored by Herman Miller for the third year in a row, CUSP explores the design of everything. Unusual and intriguing questions like the ones above are common.
The conference hosts professionals and presenters from all walks of life—designers, marketers, social entrepreneurs, and a hip hop artist who translates Darwin’s “Origin of Species” into the poetic art form of gangster rap.
People from all over the country come to absorb these unique insights for inspiration and the inside track on what’s coming next. It’s this convergence of diverse perspectives that makes CUSP so beneficial to those who attend.

The 2010 Educause Learning Initiative (ELI) Annual Conference in Austin, Texas proved to be the hot spot for higher education professionals last week. Focusing on the theme “Learning Environments for a Web 2.0 World,” they were seeking how to best utilize the latest technological tools to enhance their students’ experience on campus.
Once again, Herman Miller’s Education Solutions team was a sponsor for the event, offering attendees the opportunity to experience how our furniture can address the needs of today’s more collaborative and interactive learning environment.

A host of educational sessions focused on the benefits of utilizing popular social networking tools, such as Second Life and Google Wave, to connect students from around the world in a more real-time and personable way. Mobile learning sessions provided an in-depth look at how the wildly popular iPod Touch has been used effectively on Abilene Christian University’s campus. It was exciting to engage with faculty and administrators on the cutting edge of what’s next in higher education.

As Herman Miller continues to be a resource to higher education professionals in the holistic design of learning spaces, our Education Solutions team will always value the unique insights we gain from participating in the ELI annual conference.

Herman Miller enjoyed a great showing at the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo in Phoenix, Arizona earlier this month. In addition to the collective sighs of relief from weary attendees enjoying our comfortable seating, many also engaged our staff about Cradle to Cradle certification and our commitment to our “Perfect Vision” goals–a zero operational footprint by 2020. Our networking gardens and VIP lounge provided ample opportunities for attendees to take a breather and experience our furniture first-hand.
