Paul Vanzella—the multitalented designer, photographer, owner of Vanzella Graphic Design and co-founder of RedBubble—is clearly a busy man. Nevertheless, he’s agreed to create a very-chill new mix to help our Playlist series shift into autumn with ease. So grab your earphones and sit a spell to find a little inspiration all the way from his warehouse studio (below) in Melbourne, Australia.

What do you listen to while you work? Mainly ambient music—Brian Eno, Phillip Glass—sounds that permeate the atmosphere subliminally and operate sympathetically with the visuals I am working on. And also, if the mood shifts, I go to 50s and 60s orchestra music—love early Miles Davis, Julie London! And then, on the flip side, I can do Joy Division and The Smiths even.

We’re excited to now be able to offer you the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman in premium white leather and white ash along with Noguchi’s classic table, also in white ash. We unveiled these pieces, along with the Eames Aluminum Group outdoor series, at ICFF this year. Both are now available for the first time at the Herman Miller store.

I also mentioned at the beginning of summer that we would be offering Magis pieces. Well, you will now find Konstantin Grcic’s Chair_One at the Herman Miller store. This is an iconic piece of design that we are proud to include in our furniture collection.

Look out for more on these pieces in the coming weeks.

We’re printing less and less these days, but there are still times when we need to scan, copy, fax or print a document. Instead of having 3 devices scattered around the home or office, we highly recommend an all-in-ones printer as a space-saving solution for home office setups.

Epson Artisan 835 Using a smart 7.8″ touch panel, the Artisan 835 prints Ultra Hi-Definition 4″ x 6″ photos in as fast as 10 seconds, and that’s a feature we really like. And, it’s fast for everyday projects as well with 9.5 ppm (black) and 9 ppm (color). You can use the Automatic Document Feeder to quickly copy, fax and scan stacks of originals. Print, scan, and access memory card slots from any room in the house with convenient Wi-Fi wireless networking and built-in Ethernet networking. Or, print directly from your iPhone or other mobile device. With automatic, two-sided printing, it also enables you and your family, to easily conserve paper.

This year’s gift fair boasted some nicely designed products for work life. Natural wood elements were a strong trend throughout the booths and a couple of small Japanese designers in particular caught my eye.

Areaware We’ve previously written about this Alarm Dock, but after seeing it in person, I was still pretty impressed in both its form and function. Designed by Jonas Damon for NYC based design house Areaware, this alarm dock puts a modern twist on the iconic wood grain GE flip clocks of the yesteryear. $40

RFY Established in 1962, this Japanese company offers an array of well-designed, modern supplies, accessories and other useful objects for work. Pictured here: INNARE designed by PLANE. This desk caddy comes in white, gray and silver and features layered compartments that open and close for sleek and easy storage of various desk necessities. Available at RFY in Fall 2011.
Colors Tokyo These hand crafted iPhone cases are formed in a traditional Japanese technique called “lttoh-bori,” meaning carved by single traditional carving knife. Several fine-selected Japanese wood finishes are available. Expect to see cases for the new iPhone models this fall at colorstokyo.com.

Sweet Bella Probably one of my favorite items from the fair, this long knitted scarf is actually a calendar. Just pull the thread little by little to take away the days until the year is over. To order a 2012 calendar, visit sweetbellausa.com or call Top Hat, their lower Manhattan shop at 212.677.4240. Click here to see a video of the calendar in action.
