Three years ago, Paul and Liz David decided to leave life in Los Angeles behind and return to their Midwestern roots by moving their home (and their son) to Omaha, Nebraska. Today, they share an office where Paul runs the graphic design company Basik Design, and Liz works part-time as a freelance photo editor. In this latest tour, Paul give us a glimpse at the couple’s extensive collection of furnishings — a smart mix of contemporary and classic designs. Read more

We’ve written about Herman Miller’s connection to Star Trek before (the sets for the “Star Trek: Enterprise” and “Star Trek: Voyager” TV series both featured Stefano Giovannoni’s futuristic Bombo Stool). But it wasn’t until recently that we discovered that William Shatner — Captain James T. Kirk himself — uses one of our now-classic office chairs in the production of his one-man stage show, “Shatner’s World: We Just Live In It.” Read more

As each year draws to a close, industry color authority Pantone selects a single hue to characterize the incoming year. 2013′s color: Emerald Green. In its press release announcing the choice, Pantone’s Leatrice Eiseman explained that ”the human eye sees more green than any other color in the spectrum.” Cast your human eye on a spectrum of green with these six ways to the color of the year.

Italian designer Eduardo Alessi has a singular wit and energy. You can see it reflected in his work as well as distinct focus on sustainable products and materials. Eduardo believes if a product can make someone’s life a bit easier or even a bit more amusing, the product succeeds. His recent project, the ECO DIY Collection, is a series of 2D products made with recycled cardboard. The charming and minimal designs are modeled after endangered animals and include everything from a light to a speaker to a bookmark.
