More Matte

By

We’ve had a great response to Dave Cuzner‘s interview with artist Matte Stephens so I’ve decided to share the work Matte did for Herman Miller’s ‘See’ magazine. Unfortunately we no longer publish ‘See’ and the story, which was about the Pacific Northwest, that Matte illustrated never saw the light of day. We’re thrilled now to share the images with you.

Its so good to see these images on here thank you for posting them. It was such a fun job to work on. Todd Richards and Gay Strobel were so nice and easy to work with. They walked me through the whole job. It was my first commercial illustration job so I was very nervous. :) Especially being such a huge fan of Herman Miller.

Wow! These are wonderful illustrations. It’s too bad you don’t publish SEE anymore it was a great magazine. I would have loved to have read the article. Matte’s work is really wonderful Its so great to see it here.

Matte – I wasn’t with Herman Miller then but I’m so happy to publish these images now and I love that they were your first commercial illustrations. How wonderful!

Thank you Cerentha :)
These were for SEE 7 that was supposed to come out in October of 2007 the recession hit as they were finishing up the issue as I remember . It was the last issue that they worked on.
At that point I had been painting and doing gallery show for 12 years and never even imagined that I would ever do commercial illustrations. Todd saw my paintings at an art show in Portland Oregon and showed my work to the folks at Herman Miller and they liked it. It was a happy day.

Thank you for the nice comment about my illustrations Jason B.!
