Grain Edit is one of our favorite design blogs at Lifework, so we’re thrilled to present the Playlist of freelance illustrator and editor Grace Danico. Grace’s diverse range of endeavors also include graduate information science studies at Pratt, photo-cataloguing at the American Museum of Natural History, and a pop-up restaurant called The Baoery. The work of Amélie-Phaine Keller is wide ranging, literally. In addition to chairing the Bay Area Young Architects, and sitting on the board of the AIA in San Francisco, she also works with a nonprofit organization called Effect International. EI helps communities in rural India build their own schools, requiring Amélie to create interesting, yet simple-enough designs so locals can follow and construct their new school structures. After leaving the corporate work world, he grabbed that light and created Lumio – a multi-purpose, portable lamp that looks like a book. Architect Karen O’Leary creates fully realized cities every day without a single brick or beam. Her cities can be seen in hotels, retail stores, restaurants, and books — and on her online store, StudioKMO, naturally. How? Karen’s cities and towns are actually mind-blowing, meticulous, hand-cut paper maps and ink drawings.
