Ray and Charles on NBC

By

Ray and Charles Eames appeared on NBC in 1956 to launch the lounge chair and ottoman (watch Part 2 to see the chair being built). They are interviewed by Arlene Francis and I’m not sure what is more fascinating – hearing Charles speak about the designs, watching the dynamic between Ray, Charles and Arlene or listening to their fabulous accents. It’s compelling television.

Now that was just great!

I know! It’s been around for ages but I couldn’t resist re-posting.

I had no idea that Ray was his wife…I assumed Ray was a brother! And that Ray was a Hans Hoffman (colorist and push-pull abstract expressionist) student is wonderful! She very dutifully toke a back seat in the interview!
Arlene Francis does well as a presenter and her accent was the way many people used to speak..with a British sophisticated influence. (Have you ever noticed how much British accents are still all over NPR today?) Thanks for posting this. Much appreciated.
