Are you unplugging just because some hipster website decided it would be cool to buck convention, not realizing that unplugging for the sake of unplugging is just as bad as plugging in for the sake of plugging in?

Realize that if you fully embrace the potential that the information age has to offer–from having amazon automatically send you toilet paper to using a to-do list in a very efficient manner, to having two monitors–the productivity gains are enormous. Go bake some fresh bread (in 30 minutes) with your extra time while your unplugged brethren are left behind in the dark ages never realizing why economists consider productivity such an important measure.

(Can you tell I’m a lifehacker reader? Excuse me while I go play in the snow with all the time I”m saving being productive .)

I use an Electricity Usage Monitor, it tells you what your wattage use is on anything plugged into it. You plug it into the socket and then plug in your device, appliance, power strip, etc and it gives you a LCD readout. My model is the P3 International Kill A Watt P4400 and cost me $20 online.
