Textiles Designed by Alexander Girard

Aesthetic Functionalism

A reintroduction of heritage Alexander Girard fabrics for upholstery, these textiles epitomize Girard’s notion of “aesthetic functionalism,” that they be both pragmatic and beautiful. Celebrating the artisanal making of yarns, the collection is at once modern and historic. It includes five textiles: Lanolux (worsted wool); Superweave (wool); Colorado Plaid (compostable wool); Linomix (compostable linen wool blend); and Hopsack (antimony-free polyester).

The textiles are made on small spinners in the UK. This captures the handmade quality of the originals, while meeting today’s requirements for commercial use. All are resilient, long-lasting, and easy to clean. Appropriate for any upholstered application, they all exceed Association for Contract Textiles (ACT) standards.
