Herman Miller, Inc. was recently named the 2013 “Corporation of the Year” in the commercial products sector by the Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council (MMSDC). The award is presented to the corporation that best engages, develops, and promotes supplier diversity, and was announced at the MMSDC’s 30th annual awards celebration at Detroit’s Fox Theatre on October 1st. Herman Miller was selected for the honor from among several finalists, marking the seventh time in nine years the company has received the award.

Herman Miller is committed to developing beneficial business relationship through its supplier diversity procurement program. The company’s total corporate diversity spend for its 2013 fiscal year was $109 million, or 16% of its total purchasing. Herman Miller also continues its commitment to sharing best practices and educating its communities about the value of supplier diversity and its impact both on the organization and society.

MMSDC is a non-profit, 501c 3 organization. Founded in 1977, the Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council (MMSDC) has more than 1,200 certified minority businesses and over 300 corporate members working to further its mission to certify minority businesses; provide access to procurement opportunities; and develop capacity for minority business development.
