Products by Philippe Starck

The son of an inventor and aeronautic engineer, French designer Philippe Starck was encouraged from an early age to create and dream. Early in his career, he was asked to refurbish French President François Mitterrand’s private apartment at the Élysée; it was around this time that he also began designing products and furniture for leading Italian and international firms including Driade, Alessi, Kartell, Vitra, and Disform.

Gradually, Starck’s design portfolio extended into all facets of product design from furniture to fly swatters; his concept of “democratic design”—to increase the quality objects at lower prices so that more people can enjoy the best—set him apart in the 90s and early aughts when design was geared exclusively towards the elite.

His inventive and fanciful interior concepts for numerous restaurant, hospitality, and retail projects are world-renowned. A self-proclaimed “tireless and rebellious citizen of the world,” Starck considers it his duty to share his ethical and subversive vision with the world.
