An enduring Eames design

The lithe chairs of the Eames Aluminium Group have been a popular design since their introduction in 1958, and it’s no wonder. The graceful silhouette sits equally well in all kinds of home and workplace interiors. A wide range of material options allows a personalised look that, with its distinctive form, provides a statement of enduring design excellence wherever they are placed.

Timeless elegance

It’s uncanny how a chair designed in 1958 as outdoor seating still manages to look both classic and contemporary in twenty-first century interiors. The chairs’ clean, trim lines make them appropriate for all kinds of places, from homes to elegant offices to hip start-ups.

Aluminum Group chairs, upholstered in traditional fabric or leather, are ribbed at 1 7/8-inch intervals for a clean, refined appearance. In addition to powder coat finishes and polished aluminum, the base and frame is available in eggplant, an archival colour that beautifully complements black leather upholstery.

Innovative comfort

Never being ones to favour style over substance, Charles and Ray Eames gave their designs an innovative suspension that creates a firm, flexible “sitting pocket” that conforms subtly to the body’s shape. They created that suspension by stretching a continuous piece of seat-back upholstery tautly between lightweight aluminium side ribs.

Aluminium Group seat pads have a layered construction with fabric or leather upholstery. Cygnus mesh is a self-contouring, flexing material available on Aluminium Group chairs to provide aeration, even weight distribution and long-term comfort. Designed specifically for the Eames Aluminium Group, Cygnus is an elegant option.

Executive and management models have seat-height and tilt-swivel adjustments.

Expanded options

Give this timeless design a high degree of personalisation through expansive material choices. Among these is the luxurious feel of leather, in contract-grade or premium MCL Leather, a semi-aniline, dyed leather with 100 per cent natural full grain. Colour variations and surface marks are an inherent characteristic of this material, which will acquire wrinkles and creases and develop a rich patina over time.

To complement lighter materials, we offer powder-coat finishes on the base and frame, along with traditional polished aluminium. Chairs with the 4-star base come with glides that are easy on any floorcovering, while chairs with a 5-star base have a choice of casters for bare floors or carpeting.

Durability

With one-piece, curved aluminium side ribs and a die-cast aluminium base, the chair is strong yet lightweight, and easy to move.
