Betwixt Chairs

Celebrating togetherness through mixed materiality

Ilse Crawford and Oscar Peña of Studioilse created the Betwixt Chair in response to something they struggle to find: an “everywhere” chair that can move between different environments. The designers paired a robust steel frame with wood, upholstery, or composite cork – a material known for its sustainability – to achieve a balance wherever Betwixt is used.

Shape Shift

As part of its distinctive profile, the chair’s back legs appear to change in dimensionality depending on one’s vantage point.

Minimal Impact

The seat and backrest of the Betwixt Chair and Stool are available in composite cork, a sustainable material that is 100 per cent natural, reusable and recyclable.

Disappearing Act

Betwixt's seat sits at the standard 457-mm height even though its overall height is slightly lower than other side chairs. When positioned under a table, Betwixt blends in with its surroundings, offering a clear view across a room.

“One of the first things we do when we approach any project is a diagnosis. We always try to understand the behaviour that would be associated with the product.”
