Herman Miller, Inc., Celebrates 20 Years as Industry Leader in FORTUNE's 'Most Admired' Companies Survey
March 07, 2008   [E-mail Page]  [Print Page]

For the 20th time in 22 years, Herman Miller is ranked as the "Most Admired" company in its industry in FORTUNE magazine's annual survey broadly measuring the reputation of America's corporations. Additionally, among all companies in all industries, Herman Miller is recognized in the Top 10 for its Innovation, Social Responsibility, People Management, and Quality of Products/Services, and is the only Michigan-based company to place No. 1 among the magazine's distinct industry listings.

The results, published in FORTUNE's March 17, 2008, issue, rate Herman Miller first among all companies in the furniture industry in six of the survey's eight key attributes of reputation--Innovation, People Management, Use of Corporate Assets, Social Responsibility, Quality of Management, and Quality of Products/Services.
Herman Miller's President and CEO, Brian Walker, attributes the coveted recognition to the company's breadth of talent in all areas of its operations: "Herman Miller's strength is its people and their ongoing commitment to problem-solving excellence, both in design and in their individual performance. Twenty years of recognition by our peers and industry analysts is a great testament to our commitment of providing the best solutions to our customers."

The magazine characterizes the annual listing as "the definitive report card on corporate reputations." To compile the Most Admired list, FORTUNE enlisted the help of the Hay Group, which sorted the FORTUNE 1,000 and the top foreign companies operating in the U.S. into distinct industry lists, each containing the ten largest companies. Representatives from a total of 622 companies in 65 industries were then surveyed, along with their respective industry analysts and other third party experts.
